Ysgol Ffwrnes has demonstrated the company's commitment to reducing its environmental impacts within the construction industry by taking part in a Constructing Excellence in Wales led WRAP initiative.
As part of our commitment to sustainability within the construction industry we are currently working with WRAP and Constructing Excellence Wales at Ysgol Ffwrnes where we have some of the countries leading experts in soil science along with WRAP CYMRU conducting trials on converting sub-spoil to topsoil. The team have set up two trial areas on site which will potentially see significant benefits for future projects not only in the locality but nationwide. We have also displayed our commitment by using significant amounts of spoil to form areas of interest and more beneficial landscape levels for the children and school users.
The project is making excellent progress with the playground equipment now installed which includes a pirate ship. Safety surfacing, internal fit-out and ceramic tiling is also underway and progressing well with the final coat decorating also currently being undertaken.
Externally the site is seeing landscaping works progress with the planting of trees, grass seeding and hard surfaces.
The site recently received a visit by the School Governors, County Councillors and local MEP Keith Davies where they were given a tour of the project. The Governors were happy with the progress to date and commented on how impressed they were by the standard of work and the scope of external area that has been retained within the school boundary.
The children from the school’s Eco Council also visited site again where they helped put up the bird / bat boxes and insect hides that they made on their last visit in a carpentry workshop. Out in the woodland area of their new school they were very enthusiastic and took part in building an Eco Wall made out of tree logs to form a natural reptile shelter. The children were also very excited about the progress being made on their new school and as a reward for their good behaviour and effort put into the activities on site they were given a sneak preview of some of the play equipment that has been installed.
