Work is well underway at the new 4* Mercure Hotel in Eastover, Bridgwater.
The new hotel for DC Homes and Investments forms part of a wider regeneration plan for the area and after months of demolition the project is now ready to commence.
The hotel will comprise of 103 guest bedrooms over 4-storeys together with bar, restaurant, gym and two ground floor retail units. The facility will also house a Marco Pierre White Restaurant.
The project has received £4.5m of funding from the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Growing Places Fund. Chris Garcia, Chief Executive said: "A hotel of this type will be an asset to the whole area and we are delighted to see the progress that has been made. Six months ago the old buildings were still standing, and the team managed to navigate around the few technical problems that arose extremely well."
The project has recently encountered some unusual press when rumours were circulating locally about mysterious goings-on. It was later confirmed that historical human remains have been exhumed and removed from the site. Specialist persons were appointed and a licence from the Ministry of Justice was obtained for the removal and transportation to a new location of the remains.
Well-known local photographer Jeff Searle of Bridgwater Press was allowed onto the site to take some exclusive photos of the detailed work going on.
