Our recently completed project to build seven new bungalows at Morfa Maen in Kidwelly saw Welsh Housing Minister Carl Sargeant officially open the development last month.

The opening ceremony was a huge success with pupils from Ysgol Y Castell and Ysgol Gwenllian performing the well-known Welsh Nursery Rhyme "Hen Fenyw Fach Cydweli - The Dear Old Lady of Kidwelly. Also in attendance were Councillors Kevin Madge, Tegwen Devichand and Keith Davies.

During the ceremony two residents were given the keys and a guided tour of their new home.

The bungalows will provide more suitable accommodation for older people and help relieve the demand for disabled home adaptations. They will also allow smaller households to downsize, freeing up larger accommodation for families.

The minister said:

“I’m delighted to be here today to officially open these bungalows, which will make a real difference to a number of older people in the area and their families. Providing quality affordable homes to people across Wales is a Welsh Government priority and I’m pleased to see this commitment being delivered in Carmarthenshire”.

Councillor Tegwen Devichand, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board Member for Housing, said:

“These new homes have been developed to be energy efficient and well insulated and designed to meet the needs of the tenants. It’s fantastic to see them officially opened."

A competition organised for pupils at the two primary schools has named the scheme 'Heol Losin Du', demonstrating the interest the project has drawn up within the community.

The project will be handed over to the Council on Thursday 3rd April 2014.
