University Rugby teams from within Cardiff competed last week at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park in the WRW Construction University Cup.
Over 500 fans turned up for the annual festival as Cardiff Metropolitan, Cardiff University, Cardiff Medicals and the University of South Wales battled it out in 40-minute games to win the tournament sponsored by WRW.
Cardiff Metropolitan University won the women's tournament as they defeated USW 15-0 and Cardiff University 5-0. Cardiff University took second place after defeating USW 12-0 in the round robin competition.
The first men's semi-final saw Cardiff Metropolitan University claim a place in the final with a 17-3 over Cardiff University before the second semi-final saw USW edge out Cardiff Medicals.
The final saw Cardiff Metropolitan University really turn on the style as they convincingly won 57-0 to claim the WRW Construction University Cup for 2016.
The carnival atmosphere at the home of the Cardiff Blues included drinks promotions, food outlets and entertainment with the university keeping 50% of the ticket sales to plough back into their sporting sections. As double winners of the men's and women's competition, Cardiff Metropolitan will enjoy some new Gilbert equipment as a prize for their success.
On the subject of students, WRW are pleased to have been appointed to build the new MODRA Student Accommodation on City Road in Cardiff which will see 152 student bedrooms completed for 2017 occupation.
